Where the ship puts you

Cruise ships either berth at the New Port in Tourlos or anchor and tender passengers toward the Old Port in Chora. The exact arrangement can change with traffic, weather, and port instructions. Check the ship's notice on arrival rather than building the day around a remembered forum post. A tender arrival near Chora is wonderfully central; Tourlos requires a transfer before the postcard lanes begin.

The official Mykonos SeaBus links the New Port at Tourlos with the Old Port in roughly eight minutes and advertises frequent service, commonly about every 30 minutes in season. It connects near the bus and taxi areas, making it the most elegant answer when operating. Confirm the live timetable and last useful sailing. Taxis are limited and demand spikes when several ships, ferries, and beach clubs all decide they are the main character.

Walking from Tourlos is possible for some visitors but involves distance, traffic exposure, heat, and uneven surfaces. Chora and Little Venice

Early morning is quieter and cooler; late afternoon is prettier and more crowded. When multiple large ships call, narrow lanes can clog. Turn one corner away from the main route and the island often becomes human again.

Elia Beach

Elia is Mykonos' classic gay-popular beach. The queer crowd generally gathers toward the far-right end when facing the sea, with a more informal clothing-optional stretch beyond the organized area. It is not a separately managed gay beach, and naturism follows local practice rather than a fenced legal zone. Observe signs, respect other beach users, and do not photograph strangers.

Super Paradise and JackieO' Beach

Super Paradise is a mixed, high-energy beach. JackieO' Beach Club and restaurant give it a distinctly queer anchor, with a pool, seaside setting, dining, drinks, and seasonal entertainment. The official site lists the 2026 Beach Club opening from May 15 and describes lunch and dinner service, but daily seating and events should be confirmed when reserving. Beach beds, pool seating, meals, and ticketed events can have separate pricing.

This is the polished option: arrive with a reservation, enjoy a full meal, and stay for the atmosphere. It is not necessarily the cheapest or quietest beach day. Elia offers the more classic gay-popular beach and informal naturist stretch; JackieO' offers integrated dining, service, and spectacle. Both need a return plan. A taxi that delivered you is not a promise to materialize six hours later.

JackieO' Mykonos Restaurant is the guide's verified gay restaurant choice because it sits inside an explicitly queer beach-club environment rather than being merely tolerant. It combines Cycladic flavors with contemporary cooking and works for lunch or dinner in season. Reserve directly, disclose accessibility needs, and ask whether the chosen table, beach access, and vehicle route suit them.

XLSIOR and major gay events

XLSIOR's official site listed the 2026 festival for August 20 through 25. It is a large, ticketed gay circuit event using multiple venues rather than a casual street festival. That means major energy, international crowds, late nights, transportation demand, and prices to match. Travelers visiting in future years must verify dates and official ticket channels; an old party flyer is not a travel plan.

A cruise call during XLSIOR can offer extraordinary atmosphere but may not line up with event hours or access. Most parties begin well after a typical ship departs. A pre- or post-cruise hotel stay is the sensible way to participate. Build recovery time, use official transport, stay with friends, protect drinks and belongings, and follow the venue's policies. The island is festive; dehydration remains stubbornly unglamorous.

JackieO' also publishes seasonal programming, but the official calendar may say events are forthcoming. Do not convert an expected drag appearance into a guaranteed show. Check the official site or venue channels close to travel.

Excursions beyond the gay scene

The current excursion selection balances water, culture, cruise logistics, and food. Two catamaran products combine Delos or Rhenia with swimming, snorkeling, meals, and drinks. A dedicated cruise-passenger island loop offers port pickup, windmills, village scenery, a bakery, and beach time. A sailing title that mentions Delos does not guarantee a guided archaeological visit, and a sunset option is an ambitious choice if the ship leaves before sunset—astronomy remains unmoved by branding.

For any independent product, send the operator the ship name, arrival method, and all-aboard time. Confirm whether pickup is at the New Port, Old Port, tender landing, hotel, or a central meeting point. A small island can still create a large misunderstanding between two harbors. Official Greek passenger information describes ramps, accessible toilets, and accessible parking at the New Port, but that does not make every leg of a Mykonos day step-free. Travelers who dislike crowds, high seasonal prices, late schedules, or uncertain taxis should edit aggressively. Visit Chora early, prebook one transfer, or take a small-group sailing. Mykonos can be relaxing, but relaxation rarely emerges from five reservations in four corners of the island.

Party or relaxing?

It can be either, just not always on cruise time. A daytime call favors Chora, Elia, JackieO' Beach, sailing, wine, and Delos. A late or overnight stay unlocks the town bars and club culture. XLSIOR is unequivocally party. An early swim at Elia followed by a long lunch is unequivocally not, unless your friends are unusually gifted.

First-time visitors should choose Chora plus one additional priority. From Tourlos, use the SeaBus when operating; from a tender landing, begin in town. Then either continue to Elia for the classic gay-popular beach, reserve JackieO' Beach for a polished queer club-and-restaurant day, or take a port-aware island or sailing tour. Do not try to complete all three.

Confirm the berth or tender, transfer meeting point, current venue opening, return transport, and ship time. Leave the beach early enough to absorb traffic or a missed bus. Mykonos delivers the gay visibility, beauty, and fun its reputation promises. It asks only that you stop treating an eight-hour call like a six-night holiday with a teleportation benefit.
